Summer has arrived!
Summer means time on the lake, family vacations, and lots of warm weather.
Summer also means a new Summer Preaching Series at Unity.
Beginning this Sunday, June 12, we’ll begin a series that is based entirely on your questions.
You may remember a couple of months ago I asked the congregation to submit questions about faith. These questions were anonymous so that you could be free to ask anything. The questions you submitted were thought-provoking, challenging, and incredibly meaningful. Pastor Dana and I enjoyed them so much we decided to dedicate the whole summer to exploring them together.
Without further ado, here are the questions we’ll be exploring in the sermons throughout the summer:
“I’ve Always Wondered…”
A Summer Of Questions
June 12— How can I ever fully understand the Trinity?
June 19— Is there a hell? Would a generous God not give second chances? What does the Bible say about reincarnation? Is that possible? (These questions were all submitted separately but we’ll try to tackle them in one sermon lol)
June 26— Do you need to attend church to be a good Christian?
July 3— Is God not also the God of the Midians? Why are the Israelites “His” people and others aren’t?
July 10—How do we pick and choose which laws of God to follow (from Exodus – ie we shouldn’t eat non-kosher food, we shouldn’t get a tattoo, etc)?
July 17—Why can’t I hear God’s voice? In the Bible God speaks with many people. That doesn’t seem to happen in todays time. Why? How do I know I’m doing what God wants and not what I think God wants (but it is really me)?
July 24—I feel anxious and sad about what’s happening in the world. How can God help me feel less worried?
July 31— Byron Wade, the Presbytery of Western North Carolina’s General Presbyter, will be guest preaching.
August 7—How can I encourage others to come to worship and learn things together?
August 14—Did God make the world in 7 days or was it the Big Bang? How do we reconcile these two different theories?
August 21— Why did God take away my sister at such a young age? We will also commission our new class of Stephen Ministers.
If you miss a week, you can catch up online at https://www.unitypres.org/connect/service-video-archives/
As you read through this list of questions one of your friends or family members may come to mind. This may be a sign to invite them to church on that particular Sunday or email them the sermon afterward.
It is going to be a fantastic summer! I should note that Pastor Dana and I do nothave all of the answers. Rather, we’ll examine what the scriptures say about each topic so that we can explore them together as a community.
On a different note, many of you have asked me to let the congregation know when my daughter Gemma will be baptized. Gemma will be baptized this Sunday at the 9:30 am service.
See you on Sunday!
