WOW! What a weekend.
The golf tournament, fall festival, and pig pickin’ all within 48 hours. Whew!
Let’s start backward.
Golf Tournament
The golf tournament was at capacity with 120 people including golfers and dozens of volunteers. A group of 15 people from Unity have worked tirelessly over the past six months to plan the tournament, led by their fearless leader Keith Sipe.
The proceeds of the tournament support the Rea Community— an affordable housing project in Lincolnton.
Have you watched the video yet? Go to https://thereaproject.org/ to learn more about this amazing project.
Our church already supplied $35,000 for seed money through a presbytery grant. In addition, early returns indicate we raised around $15,000 yesterday at the golf tournament. Therefore, we are contributing around $50,000 to affordable housing. Way to go!
Fall Festival and Pig Pickin’
Over 450 people came to the Fall Festival and Pig Pickin’. I guess that goes to show what happens when you combine BBQ and candy!
Tons of kids came in costume ready to trick or treat, play fall-inspired games, and marvel at the creativity of the trunks (anyone ready to walk the plank? Or join the Price is Right? How about a spooky limousine?) Thank you to the Children and Youth team and all of the volunteers who made this happen.
We were then treated to the most delicious BBQ in Denver, courtesy of Jack Wong’s breakfast crew. Speaking of, they are cooking breakfast this Sunday at 8:30am! How are we so lucky?
They cooked through the night to create an event where the whole Denver community felt highly welcomed and valued by the hospitality they received.
Unity shined this weekend.
This congregation is alive and active. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
And we’re just getting started.
This Sunday, we begin a new preaching series about the life of Joseph titled “The Dreamer.” Invite a friend to join you for the 4-week series:
Nov. 3—Joseph Part 1: Functional Faith, Dysfunctional Family
Genesis 37: How do we serve God while in a dysfunctional family? Joseph, the dreamer, has two dreams that show him ruling over his brothers. Understandably, they do not take it well.
Nov. 10— Joseph Part 2: Integrity in the Face of Temptation
Genesis 39: Joseph thrives no matter where he goes because he honors God. His circumstances do not matter to him. Only God’s presence matters.
Nov. 17— Joseph Part 3: The Grand Reversal
Genesis 41: After 2 years, Joseph is freed from jail for revealing the meaning of Pharaoh’s dream. He makes it clear that he cannot interpret dreams, but God can. This humble recognition is the start to a great reversal in Joseph’s life.
Nov. 24— Joseph Part 4: Meant For Good
Genesis 42: Joseph meets his brothers for the first time after they abandon him. Joseph says “What you meant for evil, God used for good.” God can use all things for good.
AND…
We are almost at the end of our annual Stewardship campaign— “All Glory To God.”
There is still time to turn in your Estimate of Giving. We hope to have all of these estimates turned in by November 10. These estimates allow us to accurately create our 2025 budget. Remember— they are not binding. They are only an estimate.
You can turn it into the box in the Gathering Area, you can mail it to the church or you can turn it in online at https://unitypres.elvanto.net/form/b8915da0-55db-49ab-8451-2cd9e6653f2e
See you on Sunday!
