This week we begin a brand new series- The Seven I AM Statements of Jesus. On Sunday we discussed how God reveals his divine name (I AM/YHWH) to Moses in Exodus 3.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus uses the divine name seven times in order to describe God in relatable terms. If you’ve ever wondered, “How do I have a relationship with a God who created existence itself? How do I begin to comprehend that sort of God?” Jesus answers those questions by describing God in intimate, breath-taking metaphors.
Here is a preview of the series:
The Seven I AM Statements of Jesus
August 18- I AM the Light of the World
August 25- I AM the Gate for the Sheep
September 1- I AM the Bread of Life
Sept. 8- I AM the Good Shepherd
Sept. 15- I AM the Resurrection and the Life
Sept. 22- I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life
Sept. 29- I AM the True Vine
We begin…with light. An ancient prophecy from the Old Testament states:
“The people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.”
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.”
-Isaiah 9:2
The New Testament makes it clear that this verse refers to Jesus. Jesus is the light. It may seem at times that we are living in a world that is dark- but a light has dawned. We will study more this Sunday about how Jesus is the Light of the World, and what that practically means for us today.
My prayer is that this series will enable you to deepen you faith in Jesus. May you see that in the midst of darkness; light!
See you on Sunday!
