This Sunday I’ll engage in my first ever pulpit swap. I’m really excited.
For the past six years Unity has been leading a Building Bridges initiative. We have formed strong connections with six predominately African American churches in Denver. Together we have hosted joint Gospel concerts, visited one another’s churches, and sought to form relationships wherever possible.
One of the pastors I’ve gotten to know well is Rev. Dana Pate. She serves as the pastor of Rock Hill United Methodist Church off of Old Plank Road. We were talking one day about how to further the connection between Unity and Rock Hill.
The idea of a pulpit swap was born.
Dana Pate will preach at both services at Unity this Sunday. I will preach at Rock Hill’s 9 am service and then participate in Sunday school. Our goal is to deepen relationship with one another’s congregation. You can help with this by getting to know Dana Pate either between services or after the 11:00 am service. She will be present in the gathering area.
Dana Pate is a dynamic preacher who speaks with passion and humor. You are in for a treat.
Dana and I hope this pulpit swap will lead to future opportunities for the congregations of Rockhill and Unity to engage in community. After all, this is what the kingdom of God really looks like. On Sunday we’ll get to expand our view of God at work in Denver.
If that’s not reason enough to come on Sunday, the preschool will be giving away freshly baked cookies as a part of their fall fundraiser. YUM!
