We have a big month ahead of us!
Every Sunday brings a new theme in worship.
May 5— Youth Sunday
The middle and high schoolers will lead both services. They have been hard at work planning these services over the past month. Two of our seniors will deliver the sermon (thanks Maggie Combs and Emerson Viverette!). And we’ll celebrate communion.
This is always one of my favorite Sundays of the year!
May 12— Mother’s Day
We will be honoring all of the mothers of Unity on this special day. One of our members grew flowers for all of Unity’s moms. We will pass these out before worship.
We will explore what the Book of Proverbs teaches about parenting.
My son, keep your father’s command
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
Bind them always on your heart;
fasten them around your neck.
—Proverbs 6:20-21
What is one piece of advice you learned from your mom or dad that still resonates with you? Send it to me via email and I’ll include it in the sermon!
May 19— Homecoming: ONE SERVICE AT 11 AM.
Homecoming is a time to celebrate the legacy of this congregation. This year Unity will celebrate its 260th birthday!!
Wow.
We are going to try something new this year. The session values having everyone together on Homecoming so we will have one BIG service.
On May 19, there will be no 9:30 am service. There will be one service at 11 am. Children’s Sunday school will be offered during the 11 am service in the form of an end-of-year party.
We will have lunch as a whole congregation at noon. Please bring a side dish or a dessert.
And…if that’s not enough to celebrate, May 19 is also Pentecost. Woo!
May 26— Memorial Day
We will place a special emphasis on praying for all military families, especially those who have lost loved ones while serving our country. We will also take this opportunity to pray for peace in the world and an end to violence.
Join us as we sing some patriotic songs while supporting our veterans on this tough day.
Like I said, we have a big month ahead!
I hope you’ll join us in worship throughout the month of May as we listen for God’s word to us each week.
See you on Sunday!
