The Season of Advent

This Sunday marks the beginning of the season of Advent.

There is much to celebrate this time of year. Yet I recognize it is not only excitement that builds. Our stress has a way of growing as well.

There are additional things to pay for, extra cards to address, more events to plan, more meals to prepare, more unexpected house guests stopping in…

In the midst of the excitement and the stress, it is so important to remember why we celebrate Christmas.

Advent means arrival or coming.

This season we prepare for the arrival of Christ into our world and in our lives.

Gifts and cookies and trees are all wonderful ways to celebrate. But let us place Christ at the very center of our celebrations.

The days of Advent are holy. They are times to remember what is truly important in life.

Family.

Faith.

The fact that God loved us enough to send Jesus into the world. A baby in a manger over two thousand years ago.

I invite you to join us during this season of Advent at Unity. Each Sunday we will sing carols and study the Scriptures in order to put Christ at the very center of the season.

The theme of this year’s advent is The Characters of Christmas. Each week we will study a unique character of the Christmas story.

See you on Sunday!
