This Sunday is World Communion Sunday!
Churches from around the world will celebrate the Lord’s Supper and remember Christ’s sacrifice.
This Sunday is important because it reminds us that we are connected to the larger body of Christ around the world. Unity is not an isolated church. We are a part of the universal church that seeks to do God’s will worldwide.
Churches come in all different shapes and sizes.
Some are considered mega-churches. Other churches have only a handful of faithful attendees.
Some are traditional. Others contemporary. Some blended.
Some have been around for hundreds of years. Others are new church plants.
Churches organize themselves differently based on beliefs and overall structure. Yet the one trait that all churches hold in common is a striving for the gospel.
On World Communion Sunday, we highlight the great diversity of the church even as it shares its one central mission.
As Presbyterians, we are particularly connected to other PCUSA churches in our presbytery. We are a part of the Presbytery of Western North Carolina. The PWNC stretches from Unity to the border of Tennessee and includes 94 congregations.
Many of the churches in our presbytery were flooded by Hurricane Helene. The ones that were spared are working overtime to support their communities.
Thank you to those who have dropped off donations to the church manse. We delivered our first load of supplies this morning. Please keep the donations coming.
We have another opportunity to help.
Tomorrow someone has chosen to sponsor the Wednesday Night Dinner meal. This person is covering the costs of all of the food.
Normally we ask for a donation to offset the costs of food. Tomorrow, any donation made at Wednesday Night Dinner will be sent to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance for their work in North Carolina.
If you are not able to come tomorrow but still want to contribute, you can do so here: https://pma.pcusa.org/donate/make-a-gift/gift-info/DR000169/.
Tomorrow is also the Blessing of the Animals!
Bring your furry friend to the picnic shelter at 5 pm and then stick around for dinner. Drive by animal blessings will be from 5:30 to 5:45 pm in front of the Education Building.
See you tomorrow and on Sunday!
